Positioning
Innovation is created by people, not by processes or tools. The programme develops innovative thinking as a set of practices that can be trained.

About Oksana Hoshva

  • Founder of DOT_DOT Innovation, Ukraine’s first innovation consultancy.
  • Teaches the “Innovative Thinking” course in the MSc in Innovations and Entrepreneurship at Lviv Business School (LvBS).
  • Has taught Innovation Management at KSE Graduate School of Business for over 10 years.
  • Worked as a strategic designer at BCG (Boston Consulting Group) in New York.
  • Member of The Service Design Network.
  • Holds an Executive MBA from IE Business School and completed leadership programmes at Stanford.

Approach

Innovation = a new idea + implementation + value for people. Novelty is relative: it is enough for a solution to be new to a specific company, city or set of customers. Value is broader than money. Innovation lives not only in technology but in products, services, business models, finance and processes.

Innovative thinking is broader than creative thinking. Creativity helps generate an idea; innovative thinking covers the whole journey, from noticing an opportunity to bringing people along and implementing the solution.

Humans and AI. The more AI can do, the less our skills set us apart and the more it matters how we think. Skills can be trained with AI, but mindsets (curiosity, courage, caring) cannot be delegated to it.

The seven practices of innovative thinking

PracticeRoleQuestion
NoticeExplorerHow do you see what others walk past every day?
UnderstandEmpathWho is this really important to, and why?
ConnectCross-pollinatorHow are ideas born at the intersection of unrelated things?
ImagineVisionaryWhere could an idea grow, and what could the future look like?
ActExperimenterHow do you test ideas in reality quickly?
PersistResilientHow do you keep going when nothing is clear and things go wrong?
Co-createUnifierHow do you create something new together with others?

Each practice consists of a role, mindsets (how a person sees the world) and skills (what they do). A separate level, “From me to we”, covers how the practices become habits of a team and an organisation.

Innovator profile

A free self-assessment: 28 statements, 7–10 minutes. It shows a profile across the seven practices, separately for mindsets and skills, with recommendations on what to develop. It is a reflection tool, not a psychometric test. Take it at mindset.dotdotinnovation.com/en/profile/.
